Photo Exhibition "Impressions from Groenland" - Festival polaire de Bretagne 2009

Organised by le Cercle Polaire and presented at the Port of Légué in Saint-Brieuc (Bretany, France) - 27 October to 2 November 2009 during the Festival Polaire de Bretagne 2009, the exhibition "Impressions from Greenland" is comprised of 20 of the most impressives black and white photos taken by the Icelandic photographer Rax Axelsson, acompanied by his texts translated in three languages : English, French and Greenlandic.
Born in 1958, Ragnar Axelsson, who goes by the name Rax, is probably Iceland's most famous photographer. He has worked as a staff photographer for the Icelandic newspaper Morning Paper since 1976, « Morgunblaðið », and has done photo reports for many agencies and magazines. He has earned more than twenty awards including Photographer of the Year (four times), Documentary Story of the Year (six times), and Oskar Barnack Award (2001) that is awarded to photographers whose powers of observation most vividly express man's relationship to his environmen. Ragnar's book « Andlit norðursins » (2004, édité en anglais en 2005, « Faces of the North ») is a collection of his black and white photographs of vanishing ways of life in Iceland, the Faeroes and Greenland taken over a period of fifteen years.
