Camille Seaman (born 1969) is an American photographer who applies portraiture strategies to capture the changing natural environment. Her work mainly concerns the polar regions, where she captures the effects of climate change, thus merging the realms of science and art. She is of Native American and African-American descent through her father and mother respectively. The polar regions are unlike any other area on our planet and without them we wouldn’t have the moderate temperate zone that we do. They are otherworldly. The role of an artist is to reveal something that was previously unknown and unseen, to help cultivate more compassion and empathy, or to inspire. To breathe life, to give fuel to others to keep going. We only get one earth. The damage we do to our planet we do to ourselves. As a woman and as a woman of color I know that my voice is important and adds dimension to a complex and important topic.
